My cousin screams at my aunt whenever he gets scolded. I mean he really shows disrespect and my poor aunt just cowers. he has no father, but regardless, he is violent towards my aunt and very disrespectful. I want my aunt to stand up for herself and discipline my cousin - who is 12 BTW - before he gets even more violent in the future. please post some suggestions.

Unfortunately! if you wont take any action then it will get worst as time goes by. Changes in attitude depends on a person and their own experience. At that age its clear that the child needs attention since he got no father at all.

Your cousin needs a lesson and fast. Kids who talk back to their parents are not only disrespectful but they are acting like spoiled brats. I think your cousin is a bully in the making and I blame your aunt for her lack of discipline.
Your cousin clearly needs a stronger hand for discipline and if your aunt wont act on it then your cousin will become a bully.

IN order to discipline the child it must be done positively.Criticism, complaining, and negative comments are discouraging and often result in more misbehavior.

That's right! But encouragement, optimism, and positive strokes are kids as fertilizer is to plants. It's the stuff that really makes them flourish.

the child is a good observant, once you imposed a rules that must be followed , it should be followed of course so that you would be respected . Self respect is needed for a parent's personality. I should not be disregarded , it so important when disciplining a child .

your cousin has been acting this way simply because your aunt allows him to act this way. discipline is very important and it is most important to implement while the child is still growing because you can longer control them when they're already grown up.
