Helping Children In Correcting Their Violent Behavior

Everywhere you look you are bound to see certain acts of violence.  This has always been a worldwide concern, all the more serious once this violence reaches schools triggering school violence.  The kind of violence that happens in school are so sensitive since it concerns every child that it needs to be approached carefully since any kind of misstep might have a negative effect on a child’s psychological and emotional development.

Acts of violence are present in most schools of today.  Adolescents however are more prone in committing such acts of violence in school since this is the time that they are undergoing a lot of changes that they do not yet understand.  These kids need to be understood and dealt with patiently.

Teachers, staff member and even the school officials’ needs to be alert and be able to notice distinct symptoms and signs that students tend to give out hinting to a possible violent behavior in the future.  Noticing these certain symptoms early will surely help in eliminating or preventing violent activities that might happen in school.  Once teachers and school authorities notices a child that easily looses his temper over trivial things in school or if he is misbehaving in class, then this must be taken as a sign that this certain student has a strong possibility of being violent in the future and proper guidance and attention is needed to correct such behavior.

In another note, if a child takes part in any kind of fight with other students, or even instigating a fight knowing all the risks involved, then this might be a symptom that the student is a likely candidate to develop a very violent nature in the future.

The signs, if noticed early and monitored correctly will help in correcting these negative values of kids.  Still, in an event that a student did turn out to be violent, then teachers should handle the situation carefully and approach the student with caution, and avoiding instances where the kid might feel attacked or even isolated from other students as this will likely just worsen the situation further.

Everyone at school is expected to work as a team in trying to correct such violent behaviors in students.  Proper steps and strategies may be set up with the help of a psychologist or a counselor.   In handling cases that involve kids with violent behavior, utmost care must be observed for an event that this is not handled carefully; the child might feel that he is being rejected and tend to loose his trust with the school and this in turn will make it more difficult in correcting such behaviors.

Students must also know how to spot such signs and how to act accordingly.  Say a student noticed that one of his classmates is acting unusually, he must first observe his friends actions closely and then inform the teachers or school authorities.  He should also be advised not to stop interacting with his classmate, since this might make them feel unwanted and in turn develop into hatred to other students for avoiding him.

Remember that the violent behavior of a child cannot be corrected within a day.  And that this certain attitude was not developed in a day, nor did it happen because of a certain event during the day, rather it has been in his mind for a long time.  Patience is certainly needed when dealing with children exhibiting violent behavior.  Whatever the reason is for his behavior, at the end of the day, the combined effort of both the school staff and the parents are needed to help correct this kind of negative value, and thus providing the child with a better chance in having a great future.
